By registering with WMFA your son/daughter will be part of the biggest and best minor football league in the Windsor & Essex County area.
We have 4 divisions based on age so you know beforehand what division your child falls in. There will be no changes to these age groups. We are the only league that provides flag football for 4 to 6 year olds to introduce them to the game before they put on pads.
In our tackle divisions your child will play REAL football, 12 on 12, the same as they play in high school, university and the CFL. We have had many former players move onto successful careers in university, the CFL and the NFL. If you have any questions we will be more than happy to answer them for you. By signing your child up with Windsor Minor Football you know exactly what you are getting for your money.
We provide the player with a helmet & shoulder pads that are to be returned at the end of the season.
Parents need to provide black football pants, 7 piece pad set for the pants, practice jersey and cleats.
No metal cleats are allowed, only plastic or rubber.
No alterations to the league's equipment is allowed.
WMFA PARENT CODE OF CONDUCT
We as a league would like everyone's experience at a WMFA game or event to be a positive and enjoyable one. Every parent must sign a Parent Code Of Conduct. Link is below.
Parent Code of Conduct
WINDSOR MINOR FOOTBALL ASSOCIATION (WMFA)
PARENT CODE OF CONDUCT
The essential elements of character building and ethics in sports are embodied in the concept of
sportsmanship. We believe the highest potential of sports is achieved when competition reflects six
core principles: trustworthiness, respect, responsibility, fairness, caring, and good citizenship.
Every member of WMFA will therefore agree:
I agree that by signing the Code of Conduct, I accept its rules as guidelines for my behaviour as
well as that of my immediate family and guests. I agree that if I or members of my immediate family
or my guests fail to abide by Code of Conduct, I will be subject to disciplinary action that could
include, but is not limited to, the following:
• Verbal warning by official, head coach, and/or exectutive of league organization
• Written warning
• Parental game suspension with written documentation of incident kept on file
• Parental season suspension
PRACTICE & GAME INFO
Teams practice all over Essex County not just in Windsor. The location of the practice is determined by the teams boundary. Teams practice within their boundary.
Most teams begin practicing during the 1st or 2nd week of August and typically most teams practice 2 to 3 times a week (usually twice after school and once on the week end). Obviously some coaches have a different preference or schedule and they will decide on the practice dates and times.
Practices are generally 1 1/2 to 2 hours long. During the week they start around 5:30/6pm and on weekends are usually late morning/early afternoon.
Due to the nature of the game, more time is allocated to practice compared to other sports. This is to learn all aspects of the game, develop skills, proper tackling and blocking techniques, plays, etc.
The first game usually follows Labour Day weekend. If the holiday falls late and the schedule dictates then we start the weekend before Labour Day. We do not play on Labour Day weekend.
Traditionally all games are on Sunday mornings and afternoons at our home at MicMac Park. We sometimes have one Tuesday or Wednesday night game at an available lighted stadium.
If we have bad weather that renders our fields unplayable then we will try find an alternate location so that we have no interuption to our schedule and we don't have to cancel any games.
The regular season is generally 8 games (depending on number of teams) then 3 rounds of playoffs. All teams will have an opportunity to play in post season play.
